Switching from Android to iPhone

When transferring your data from Android to iOS, there are generally five steps to follow:

  1. Decide what data you want to synchronise;
  2. Make a backup on your Android device;
  3. Synchronise the backup on your new Apple device;
  4. Transfer your photos and videos from Android to iOS;
  5. Transfer your music from Android to iOS.
Below, we will explain how this works step-by-step.

1. Decide what data you want to synchronise

This refers to how you set up what data needs to be stored in your Google-account.

  1. Go to settings on your Android phone by tapping on the gear-icon;
  2. Go to 'Accounts & Backup' and select the Google-account that you will use for your backup;
  3. Tap 'Synchronise account' and specify which data you want to synchronise by selecting this.

You have now determined what data needs to be stored in your Google Account.

2. Make a backup on your Android device

This way, all your data is stored online in your Google Account, so you can transfer it to your iOS device later.

  1. Go to Settings on your Android device and select 'Google';
  2. Select the Google account that you have used for your backup;
  3. Tap 'Make backup' and tap one more time on 'Make backup now'.

Your data is now saved in your Google account.

3. Transferring backup to your iPhone

Now, take your iPhone or other iOS device.

  1. On your Apple device, go to 'Settings' and choose 'Mail';
  2. Tap 'Accounts' and select 'New account';
  3. In the next screen, tap 'Google', and log in with the Google-account that you used for the backup;
  4. Use the slider to select which data you want to transfer to your iOS device.

Your data is now being transferred to your iOS device.

4. Transferring photos and videos

The easiest way to transfer your photos is through the Google Photo app. It stores your photos and videos in the cloud.

  1. Open the Google Photos app on your Android device;
  2. Tap on your account in the corner of your screen and choose 'Settings for Photos';
  3. Tap 'Backup and synchronisation' and make sure it is on;
  4. Now take your Apple device and install the Google Photos app through the App Store;
  5. Log in with your Google account, you can now watch all your photos.

5. Transferring music

Do you have music stored on your Android device? There are two ways to transfer your music files: via cable and PC, or wireless, via Google Drive.

Transferring music with a USB-cable and PC

  1. Connect your Android-phone to the PC using a USB-cable;
  2. Find the music files and copy them to a folder on your PC;
  3. Now disconnect your Android device and connect your Apple phone to your PC with a cable;
  4. Copy the music files from your PC to your Apple phone.

Transferring music through Google Drive
  1. Open the Google Drive-app on your Android-device;
  2. Tap the plus sign at the bottom and tap 'Upload';
  3. Now select the music files (songs) you want to transfer;
  4. Wait until all of the files are uploaded;
  5. Now take your your Apple device and install the Google Drive app;
  6. Sign in with your Google Account: you can now access your music files! You can also download them to save them on your iOS device.
